_Matters: Leeds University Fine Art Degree Show 2014
17th – 23rd June
_Matters is the apex of the undergraduate careers of 32 multidisciplinary Fine Art students from the University of Leeds. Bringing together a diverse collection of individual practices, _Matters will take place across the three main studios on campus over 6 days and will feature an exclusive reading room featuring publications from _Matters own exhibiting practitioners, local art institutions and contributors from further afield
The title ‘_Matters’ invites each of the 32 participating practitioners to explore what _Matters to their practice and to explore the context in which it sits. The 32 resulting answers seek to display the diversity of influences and motivational factors in the practices of students who choose to study fine art at a higher academic level in 2014. Simultaneously, the title refers to ‘matter’ as a noun, the physicality of matter in relation to practice and most importantly:
The physical act of making art combined with the significance of critical dialogue, art theory and art history which forms 50 percent of the overall course structure for Fine Art at the University of Leeds.
